Make Your Smile Younger With an In-Office Botox Treatment

You’ve probably heard some buzz about BOTOX, usually related to A-list celebrities. But the treatment isn’t just for the rich and famous anymore, and you don’t need to see a separate doctor to get it! Dr. Samsavar is a member of the American Academy of Facial Esthetics, and he is certified to offer and perform BOTOX treatments to patients

What does BOTOX do?

So just what does BOTOX do? In short, it reduced the signs of aging in the face through injections. The injections derive from botulinum toxin type A, which is diluted in the injections so it is entirely safe and risk-free for patients. The injections stifle the muscles around the wrinkles, meaning the muscles are prevented from contracting at the injection site. This keeps wrinkles from forming because the muscles are contracted instead of relaxed. Relaxed muscles agitate the skin, allowing wrinkles to form. Patients will notice their skin smooth out and their wrinkles diminish shortly after undergoing the procedure.

BOTOX is best used to address wrinkles in the forehead, around the frown lines, the brows, and crow’s feet. BOTOX has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration, and it should always be performed by a certified doctor.

What you should expect during your BOTOX treatment:

The whole procedure is short and painless. Since it only involves a few injections, the whole process is over quickly. It is painless, so there is no need for anesthesia. Patients can return to normal activities immediately after receiving injections, so there is no downtime required. The results usually last around 5 months, and around this time patients will notice wrinkles beginning to form again on their faces. The good news is that patients can receive injections again and again without damaging their skin.

If you’re looking for a simple but effective way to reduce the signs of aging caused by facial wrinkles, you should consider BOTOX treatments. Contact us today for more information.

Bellevue Dentist Urges Patients to Seek Care For Salivary Gland Problems

Have you ever noticed a discolored, swollen area in your mouth that resembled a pimple or blister? Maybe the area hurt a little bit, maybe not. Either way, it’s something that should be mentioned to Dr. Samsavar, during your next visit to the International Institute of Cosmetic Dentistry. Why is it worth mentioning? Simply put, it could be a mucocele, sialolith, ranula or something more disconcerting. They all involve soft tissue and many of the salivary glands found in the mouth.

The list of glands includes, but is not limited to the submandibular, sublingual and parotid. Over time, they may clog much like the pores on your face. When that happens, the clog creates a backup of saliva that leads to the formation of hard, little stones or soft, pus and saliva filled cysts. The stones are known as sialoliths and the other two items we mentioned earlier are classified as cysts. In some instances, Bellevue dentists will have to drain or otherwise remove them during an office visit. In others, the problem will disappear on its own.

However, many people opt to have dentists look at the pimples or cysts as soon as they form for one simple reason. They could indicate the presence of infection or an underlying disease. The list of problems that are sometimes accompanied by ranulas, sialoliths and mucoceles includes, but isn’t confined to the following:

  • Non-Hodgkin Lymphomas

  • HIV and Full-Blown Aids

  • Drug and Alcohol Abuse

  • Diabetes

  • Mouth or Throat Cancer

  • Sjogren’s syndrome

  • Salivary Gland Cancer

  • Gingival Cysts

  • Sarcoma

If Dr. Samsavar has concerns, he may save materials removed during the draining process and send them to a local lab for further examination. If the exam results come back indicating that infection and disease are likely to blame, he may suggest other treatments accordingly. To learn more about treating mucocele, sialoliths and ranula that may be causes for concern, please contact our Bellevue dentist today for an appointment.

When White Teeth Go Translucent: What’s the Deal With See-Through Teeth?

White teeth are what Americans hope to see when they stand in front of a mirror and smile. However, what people hope for and what they ultimately get may be two very different things. For instance, sometimes teeth turn translucent, thereby leaving people with unusual looking smiles. The good news is see-through teeth may be revitalized with the proper care.

When we are young, our teeth have an inherent translucency to them. It shows up most often around the biting edge of the tooth and extends upward towards the gum line. This is due to the fact that that enamel is naturally opaque. The yellowish white coloring that many of us see when we smile is caused by a combination of factors, including the presence of dentin. It starts at the gum line and works its way downward. That’s why the tips of a young person’s teeth often appear more translucent than the rest.

As we march onward towards adulthood, the dentin in our teeth continues to grow until the entire tooth may appear yellowish white. It typically remains that color until something goes wrong or we approach old age. The list of other things that may cause our teeth’s dentin to deteriorate includes, but doesn’t end with the following:

  • Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

  • Osteoporosis

  • Dental Caries

  • Dentinogensis Imperfecta

  • Malnutrition or Bulimia

  • Unsafe whitening techniques

  • Injury to the Tooth’s Enamel

  • Bruxism

Cosmetic dentists can help reverse the process by protecting the remaining dentin and restoring what was lost. The protection is typically provided with the aid of tooth remineralization products, sealants and fluoride treatments. Restoration work, on the other hand, may involve the use of composite resins, porcelain veneers and crowns. Juvederm fillers in Bellevue: One Great Way to Make Marionette Lines Disappear

For many men and women, the first signs of marionette lines are rather disturbing. On the off chance that you’ve never previously heard the term “marionette lines” before, please allow our Bellevue dentist to explain what they are and how a simple trip to Dr. Samsavar’s may help hold them at bay. Let’s start with an overview of what they are and why they form:

Marionette lines are what many people call the sagging skin that starts to appear at the corners of the mouth and other areas of the face. Considered to be a natural byproduct of aging, they normally form when our body’s bone density, collagen and elastin levels start to drop. However, they may also be caused by assorted health problems and lifestyle choices. The list of health problems that may cause the appearance of sagging skin includes, but are not limited to facial nerve palsy, cerebrovascular accidents, iatrogenic injuries, head trauma, Ramsey hunt syndrome and bell’s palsy. The assortment of lifestyle choices that may cause sagging includes tobacco smoking, prolonged UV exposure, weight loss and excessive drug use.

There are various ways to prevent and minimize the appearance of sagging around the mouth. Some of those methods are very intrusive (e.g. surgery) and require lengthy, physician monitored recovery periods. Others may be completed at home or in a Bellevue dentist’s office. The list of saggy mouth treatments that may take place at our International Institute of Cosmetic Dentistry includes facial exercises, nutritional counseling and Juvederm© filler injections. Of those three, the Juvederm filler injections tend to be the most popular.

The reasoning behind Juvederm© filler injections’ popularity tends to be multifaceted. Some patients love the fact that the injections are non-invasive, fast-acting, long-lasting and don’t require the completion of a complicated, post-recovery period. Others just adore the way that the Juvederm© fillers brighten up their appearance. To learn more about the injections and determine whether or not they’re right for you, please contact us today.
