About BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® injections involve the use of a purified and safe substance derived from botulinum toxin type A. Since the substance is extremely diluted in BOTOX® injections, there is no danger to the patient when it is administered.

BOTOX® injections are approved for wrinkle-reduction use by the Food and Drug Administration. BOTOX® injections are best used to address problems with crow’s feet, deep lines and furrows on the forehead, frown lines, and other sorts of facial wrinkles.

How do BOTOX® Injections Work?

BOTOX® injections will prevent muscles from contracting in the injection site. This means that the relaxed muscle will not be able to agitate the skin about, allowing the skin to smooth out and any creases or wrinkles caused by muscle contractions to diminish. Since the procedure only involves an injection or a few injections, there is no anesthesia involved, no notable pain or discomfort, and no recovery time required.

How Long Do BOTOX® Injections Last?

The results of BOTOX® injections are not permanent, and nor should they be given the nature of the treatment. For most patients, the results and effects of BOTOX® injections will last around five months, give or take a month. Once the effects of the BOTOX® injections wear off, you will notice the wrinkles in the injections sites begin to return over time.

Repeat and Additional BOTOX® Injections

One of the best things about BOTOX® injections is that while results are not permanent, they can be repeated. Indeed, many patients who enjoyed the results of BOTOX® treatment often repeat the process once the effects of the previous BOTOX® treatment wear off.
